UPDATE NOTES from 2.7.989 to 2.7.992: The differences in the way the registry is used and configured compared to previous versions mean that problems with this version (if any) will most likely be manifest during: Re-installing after un-installing. Upgrading an existing system after uninstalling the previous version. This release stores the proxy-server password and the NewsJET user password as encrypted strings in the registry, along with an RSA code-string used to decrypt the passwords. Each installation will generate a unique RSA string value during the configuration-screen on install. If that step is skipped, the string will be generated the first time the client is configured and “OK” is clicked. Once those passwords are encrypted, they cannot be (easily) decoded without sophisticated software tools. The secure fields (Password and ProxyPassword) are zeroed out in the registry after an uninstall. As such, you will always need to re-enter those passwords when installing the product – even if it has been resident on the system previously. During a runtime configuration process, the passwords are retrieved, decrypted and filled into the appropriate fields (although masked with asterisks) so that click the “OK’ button will still record the correct data for those fields if they are not altered. ---=== UPDATE PROCESS FROM 2.7.989 ===--- A – Double click on the current app and stop the processes, then check the configuration and make note of your login and password that we assigned to you initially. You will need to re-enter that information after the new version is installed, because the data is now going to be encrypted. B - Make sure you stop the NewsJET service and stop the NewsJET applet running in the system tray before un-installation. C - After the service is stopped and the monitoring application in the system tray is closed, uninstall the old version of the NewsJET client from the add/remove programs dialogue in the control panel. D – Reboot the system after the uninstall. E – Install the new version using this link: http://help.alphavideo.com/help/NewsJET/NJXML_2.7.992b.exe F – Follow the on-screen prompts, and if things are successful you will need to re-enter the login and pw information to access our server on the “basic” tab. G – Configure the proxy settings on the proxy tab. H – Go back to the “basic” tab and click “test” I – You should see a message indicating a successful login, and potentially a small time offset. J – Click “Ok” K – Click “Start” to start the service L – Click “Close” to close the app. M – (optional) Reboot the system, you’re done.
